Second stimulus check - soon in the mail?
What a month! Many of us won’t forget the last 4 weeks any time soon.
Lehman Brothers bankrupt, financial institutions all over the world in dire straits, the stock market crash and now fears of a serious recession, some even predict depression.
Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said Tuesday the current financial challenges facing the country will persist for a number of months, but he said the economy will rebound.
“our government will do what is necessary to significantly strengthen our banks and financial institutions, enabling them to increase financing for the consumption and business investments that drive U.S. economic growth,” Paulson said.
Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke boosted a second stimulus package’s prospects by arguing in Congressional testimony Tuesday that the likelihood of a protracted slowdown stemming from weak U.S. economic fundamentals, aggravated by the financial crisis, convinced him to support a new round of fiscal stimulus, Bloomberg News reported.
A second stimulus package would help lessen the effects of a U.S. recession, many economists — including the Chairman of the Fed — agree, but whether Congress can pass one by year’s end remains an open question.
The stimulus check’s purpose includes getting money in the hands of business owners through consumers. If approved, it is expected to help relieve freezes on hiring and positively influence the markets.
But what are the chances taxpayers will receive a second stimulus check?
Economist David H. Wang told BloggingStocks Tuesday the worsening economy “appears to be shifting the political winds in Washington and theymay very well pass a second stimulus package.”
Nancy Pelosi has made one last appeal for a second Stimulus Check, suggesting that Congress could pass it after the November 4th election, and get checks out to taxpayers by Christmas. This was in response to Ben Bernanke admission that he is in favor of more checks, stating the nation’s economic weakness could last a while.

A stimulus check well before Christmas would boost the economy! We usually go all out for the grandkids at Christmas because their parents can’t, but we find ourselves spending what we had for our christmas club on oil and saving most of the remainder for the next three months oil………not knowing which direction the oil prices will go. The working people need a bailout too……..and we don’t have a seperate pool of money in which we can dip into. I hope you can please help this season. Thanks
I think that the economy does need a second round of stimulus checks. I have heard alot of talk about it. The only question that I have is; when? I need to help with christmas and to balance out bills. Are we really going to get it before Christmas? I say Hurry the Hell up!
Yes a second stimulus check would help me out greatly. I am a single mother of four children, I work everyday but am finding it very hard to be able to save money to buy my kids any gifts for christmas. This second check would help me to get them some of the things they deserve. They are such great kids and with me working they help me out so much at home and this would give me a chance to give back to them something nice so please try and get this to go through.
Getting a 2nd check by Christmas would definately increse spending I know I would go out and get my girls more gifts 
and spend the money and have fun doing it, we need this a lot more than the auto companies do!!! Hope it hurries only a month left
I WOULD LIKE THE CHECK 2 COME BEFORE XMAS IF POSSIBLE.I HAVE 5 KIDS AND 11 GRANDS THIS WOULD HELP ME ALOT.
A second check would help me a lot. I live in a 2 bedroom rental house that is falling to pieces. There are 6 of us here and this money would help us move to a better house. My kids also need clothes. I don’t go out and buy brand new every time. I go to goodwill to buy most of them, but it still costs money. 100 dollars doesn’t go as far as it used to.
A second stimulus check will be very helpful. it will help with the bills and with Christmas, as well as hold us over to the new year. I hope it happens.
